The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace

Sir Karl Jenkins

Chamber Choir of Europe

(Direction Masis Aram Gözbek)

Haydn Orchester Bolzano und Trento

https://www.meranofestival.com/en/concerts/en-vox-humana/sir-karl-jenkins

The Armed man: A Mass For Peace is one of the most performed contemporary works in the world.

Many sections of the work are worthy of close examination – not least the Agnus Dei and the Sanctus – but it’s the haunting Benedictus that captivates listeners to the greatest extent, leaving them begging for more. Jenkins’s writing for soulful cello is sublime and the heavenly choral accompaniment truly transports you to another place.

Never one to define himself by one set of beliefs, Jenkins uses all sorts of inspirations for the text of The Armed Man, including the Muslim call to prayer, the sixteenth-century 'L’Homme armé' Mass tradition, and ancient religious texts.

Sir Karl Jenkins will be joining the Chamber Choir of Europe and the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trentino for an unforgettable performance at the Merano Music Festival.

Mantra meets Classic - "Shanmuga Kavacham"

An Indian prayer meets classical European choral music

Tenor: Malcom Cooper (USA)

Tenor: Sooraj Santhosh (India)

Tenor: Anand Madhavan (India)

Soprano: Anne Reich (Germany)

Mantras have healing powers in the Hindu faith, using vocal performance causing human body to vibrate which cleanses the mind, body and soul. "Shanmuga Kavacham" must be regarded as intercession for protection against all dangers to the Lord Murugan, the reincarnated form of the Supreme God Shiva which embodies Hinduism.

Another important feature of this project is clearly in the Indian-German cooperation which will contribute on the basis of music to promote international understanding. The singers and soloists come from all over Europe, India and the USA.

The audience will be led by a narrator throughout this sonorous performance. The concert will be recorded and broadcast on Indian television. More information about "Mantra meets Classic" can be found on the homepage:
